Tsavo 1 night

Tsavo East and West together form Kenya's largest protected area. The elephants here dust themselves red-brown from the soil. Highlights include Mzima Springs, lava flows and the Galana River. It is also one of the best-value safari destinations in Kenya.

Amboseli 1 night

A flat, dusty park at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, known for large elephant herds and classic photographs of the snow-capped peak. Swamps fed by mountain water attract hippo, buffalo and thousands of birds.

Kenya

Maasai Mara 2 nights

Kenya's most famous reserve, in the south-west of the country and joined to the Serengeti across the Tanzanian border. Rolling grassland is home to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo, and the Great Migration crosses the Mara River between roughly July and October. The Maasai people live on the reserve's edges and in nearby conservancies.
