Kenya

Lake Nakuru 1 night

A small, easy park centred on an alkaline lake famous for flamingos. It is a rhino sanctuary and a good short trip from Nairobi. Nearby Lake Naivasha and Hell's Gate add boat rides and cycling.

Kenya

Maasai Mara 2 nights

Kenya's most famous reserve, in the south-west of the country and joined to the Serengeti across the Tanzanian border. Rolling grassland is home to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo, and the Great Migration crosses the Mara River between roughly July and October. The Maasai people live on the reserve's edges and in nearby conservancies.

A long stretch of soft white sand with palm trees and a coral reef, south of Mombasa. It combines relaxed beach days with reef snorkelling, colobus monkeys and day trips to Wasini Island and Shimba Hills.
